The Oberwiesenthal region in the Ore Mountains - skiing, hiking and more
Winter sports in Oberwiesenthal in the Ore Mountains
Right at the top on the roof of Saxony.
Welcome to the largest snow-covered ski area north of the Alps. With over 120 snow lances, the largestski area in the New Federal States can be covered with snow. Whoever stays at the Jens Weissflog Appartementhotel has the ski slopes and the cross-country ski trails right “in front of their nose”. Both are only a few meters away from the house. With the drag lift “Himmelsleiter” you can get to the Fichtelberg and who wants to go on from there, also to the other ski slopes and back. We are in good spirits, because the plans are already on the table with the operator that the T-bar lift will soon become a modern chairlift.
Furthermore, of course, you have the possibility to use the large ski area around the Keilberg on the Czech side. For the winter season 2018/19, it was expanded with the connection of the previously independent ski resort Neklid near Boží Dar by slopes totaling 10 km of slopes. A ski bus is organized for the transfer of guests between Fichtelberg and Keilberg.
Numerous events on the ski slopes spread good mood and make your skiing vacation unforgettable: Light rides with the suspension railroad in Advent, Eastside Parkopening in the Funpark, ice disco on the ice rink, New Year’s Eve party, Snow Fun weekends in January, winter fun in March, Fichtelchens Skinacht, the famous nostalgia ski race of the ski school Süß, live music, fireworks, night skiing, torchlight descents, the Mount Mallorca Festivalweekend and many more. Guests are also always welcome at the numerous sports events at the ski jump or the FIS ski slope as well as in the Sparkassen ski arena!
Winter fun for everyone
Not everyone is already an expert. But who would not like to learn the fascination of skiing? This is best done under expert guidance at the United Ski School Oberwiesenthal. Of course, every little one will quickly become a great skier there. With a ski carousel, magic carpet, lift and snow-making equipment, learning to ski is great fun. But also a tobogganing party is nothing in the way. We have toboggans to borrow for free in the house while stocks last. Friends of figure skating will also get their money’s worth on the artificial ice rink right next to the open-air stage.
For toboggan fans Oberwiesenthal also offers something very special: the almost 1.8 km long natural snow toboggan run from the Fichtelberg.
You can get to the mountain by car, the four-seater chairlift or the suspension railroad. From the starting point (Fichtelberg plateau behind the Fichtelberghaus) it goes down in flat or steep curves, 1 x across drag lift track and downhill 9 further to the nature inn “Eschenhof” where the toboggan run ends.
Then it’s a 300m walk to the left for après ski in our hotel or right along the Vierenstraße and the next toboggan run.
The ADAC tested in 2011 a total of 30 toboggan runs in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy and our toboggan run is one of the 3 winners (in the European rating 3rd place and in Germany 2nd place)!
Hiking and biking in and around Oberwiesenthal
jump off. relax. be active.
Our house is an ideal starting point for many hiking tours.
The specially created Jens Weißflog Tour with 25.2 km and the Lukas Bauer Tour (cross-country skiing world cup winner) with 8 km are hiking trails with cross-border character. With the climatic trails of the climatic health resort Oberwiesenthal, which bear the names of other Olympic champions and world champions of the place are more beautiful circular routes accessible from the hotel.
New – Kammweg. Here we are also directly on it. The Kammweg is the first cross-regional certified hiking trail in Saxony.
We are located directly on the hiking trail of the German Unity and on the European long-distance hiking trail E3.
In addition, there are numerous hiking tours, which are laid out as circular routes.
